Secrets In Lace 2012 pin-up calendar

This year Secrets In Lace have teamed with pin-up photographer Michael Malak to bring you a limited edition collector's calendar shot with beautiful pin-up models wearing Secrets In Lace lingerie in front of WWII aircraft.

They are also offering each calendar month and the cover photo as 18" x 24" fine art giclée print ready to frame. Only 100 of each limited edition photo will be available, numbered with a certificate of authenticity from The Artpost, printed on archival photo metallic silver paper with archival inks SIGNED by photographer Michael Malak. Amelia Nightmare - pin-up model

Amelia Nightmare (Amelia Dinmore) was born in 1987 in Redlands, California where she still lives. Young "Tilly" was shy but always a little outgoing with her style and always fascinated with colour. She gradually evolved into the flamboyant, exotic and stunning alternative pin-up she is today.

Says Amelia: "I'm a hair stylist, make up artist, and model. I LOVE creative and artistic concepts, colors, and visions. I am a big fan of color, fetish, Alt, pinup and I pretty much dig anything super artsy!"

We really love this!! The artist is Warren Louw and this amazing digital artwork is called "Baby Doll". For those of you who don't know the film, she is one of the main characters.

"A young girl (Baby Doll) is locked away in a mental asylum by her abusive stepfather where she will undergo a lobotomy in five days' time. Faced with unimaginable odds, she retreats to a fantastical world in her imagination where she and four other female inmates at the asylum, plot to escape the facility. The lines between reality and fantasy blur as Baby Doll and her four companions, as well as a mysterious guide, fight to retrieve the five items they need that will allow them to break free from their captors before it's too late." Besides Modeling I used to be a Las Vegas Showgirl in Jubilee at Ballys Hotel, and I'm currently a Burlesque dancer."

Stockings :: a glossary of terms

Fully fashioned (FF)

This refers to stockings that are knitted flat on vintage machinery, and then sewn up the back with a genuine seam and finishing loop. Genuine fully fashioned stockings are now very rare but much sought after (see fig 1 & fig 2).

Contrast heal and seam

Many would say the ultimate in hosiery, striking, sophisticated and very daring, this type of stocking features a contrast colour foot, seam and welt. Sometime bright colours may be used as the "contrast", but often it wil be a black seam, heel, toe and welt featuring as part of a "nude" stocking (see fig 1).

Cuban heel

Type of heel on a fully fashioned stocking whereby the reinforced part is squared off above the back of the ankle, rather than tapering to a point (see fig 1).

French heel

Also known as a point heel, it's the type of heel on a fully fashioned stocking whereby the reinforced part tapers off to a point, helping to accentuate the length and shape of the leg (see fig 2).

Reinforced heel and toe (RHT)

Stockings that have a reinforced heel and toe. Classic RHTs are generally made from 100% non-stretch nylon, and along with fully fashioned stockings, are the most reminiscent of the golden era of the 1950s. RHT stockings do not have a seam.

Sandal toe

Sheer, invisible toe - ideal for wearing with strappy sandals or open toe shoes. May come with or without reinforced heel.

Welt

As a term specific to stockings it describes the double thickness at the stocking top. Fully fashioned stockings have a finishing loop at the back of the stocking welt (see fig 2).

Denier

This is a guide to whether the hosiery is sheer (see through) or opaque. Low deniers are sheer. High deniers are opaque. Technically it's defined as the weight in grams of 9000 meters of yarn. Standard sheer hosiery tends to be in the 10-20 denier range. Anything less than 10 denier is considered ultra sheer. Higher deniers tend to be semi-opaque (around 30 denier) or fully opaque (45-50 and above).

Enoch Bolles :: pin-up advertising

We don't often see the  pin-up work of Enoch Bolles in vintage advertising and here is a very nice example.

This advertisment for Zippo lighters originally appeared in the Christmas 1937 edition of Esquire magazine. The caption says "She passed the fan test" after apparently being able to light a cigarette on a windy day whilst calmly keeping her skirt in place as it is assailed by the very same atmospheric turbulence.

This is part of  WWII Pinup book project, "Wings of Angels", being shot at Yanks Air Museum in Chino, CA.

The contest is open to anyone throughout the world.

Starting in August of this year. Bettie Page Clothing has agreed to donate 1940's period clothing for each of the models, and Secrets in Lace has just agreed to supply ALL lingerie. WWII Vintage style pinups with the models posed in and around WWII aircraft, wearing SIL lingerie. The models will also be wearing WWII bomber jackets and props from WWII.

Michael Landefeld is best known for his beautiful pin-up girls, whose fusion of retro charm and modern spice make them instantly recognizable and known throughout the art world.

Michael's pin-up girls can be seen on everything from tee shirts to stickers to rolling papers. His girls have even shown up as tattoos and boat art. Most recently, members of the Armed Forces have used Michael's military inspired pin-ups as Unit Combat Patches and even decals on Black Hawk Helicopters.
