Its roots are steeped in popular movements and iconography from the 20th century. It is a bewitching brew of 1950s lingerie and props (including cars and bikes), Rockabilly, 1970s Punk, 1980's Goth, with more than a hint of classic Alberto Vargas and Gil Elvgren pinup styling and composition. I also taste science fiction. It can contain any and all of these elements.
This smoking hot brew is being stirred by photographers such as Viva Van Story who's work often hints at some dark, underlying Gothic tale but is always replete with retro sensuality, and Robert Alvarado with models and pin-up compositions sometimes seeming like the product of some exotic alien paradise.

Its models, Sabina Kelley for example, have already created their own powerful and exotic visual statements and are an integral part of the look. Frequently thrown into the mix are beautiful, luxuriant, and extensive tattoos, and this is almost a signature for the genre. The "inked" girls, and I love that expression.
So what do we call this reloaded pin-up, if it needs a name? Tonight I'm thinking "Punk Pinup" or "Gothic Glamour" but tomorrow is another day...
